The meteorite is an ordinary chondrite L5 with slight shock stage S1.
PETROGRAPHY:
The meteorite has poorly defined chondrules in the recrystallized matrix. The main minerals present are olivine and pyroxene. The metallic phases present are kamacite, tetrataenite and antitaenite. Source: Scorzelli et al., 1998.
GEOCHEMISTRY:
Olivine Fa25.0; Pyroxene Fs21.4. Noble gases He, Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe were analyzed in two samples from Campos Sales. All ages of exposure based on the determination of cosmogenic abundances 3He, 21Ne, 38Ar, 83Kr, 126Xe and the cosmogenic ratio 81Kr / 83Kr agree well, suggesting the absence of gas loss during exposure to cosmic rays. The age of exposure to cosmic rays is 23.3 + - 1.0 Ma, which is in the range observed for L5 chondrites (20-30 Ma). The ages of gas retention indicate the loss of He that must have occurred before or during the ejection of the parental body of the chondrite L. Source: Scorzelli et al., 1998.
CLASSIFICATION:
The meteorite is an ordinary chondrite L5 with slight shock stage S1. Source: Scorzelli et al., 1998.

HISTORY:
A meteorite shower fell on January 31, 1991 between Araripe and Campos Sales, in Ceará. The fall was witnessed by some residents of the locality, who saw a flash at around 10 pm, from some localities there was also a big explosion. The luminosity was observed in several cities of Cariri and Pernambuco. Mr. Ademar Antônio da Silva, from the Poço Redondo farm, who was lying at home when he heard a noise so loud that he even thought that a plane was falling, running into the yard looked up and saw the fireball in the sky. dividing it in several luminous points that, according to her, looked like a “fire of tears” and that soon afterwards some stones fell in her yard. The very next day, Mr. Ademar started asking his neighbors if they had seen what had happened and learned that José Gerson, while playing dominoes with his friends, saw the same phenomenon. The 3.5 kg stone recovered from Mr. Ademar's backyard was taken to Campos Sales radio. The fall was witnessed by several residents of the Cariri region, and at the moment everyone was startled by thinking that it was a bomb from Iraq, dropped by Saddam Hussein. Residents in the vicinity of Poço Redondo and even Crato said that the stones smelled like gunpowder and were also frightened to think it was a bomb or chemical weapon dropped from Iraq. The news ended up in the capital's newspapers and Professor Walmick Vieira, who had arrived on a trip, became aware of the fact and decided to go to the site to investigate the fact, having found that it was a meteorite. With the help of the population, he managed to recover 23 kg of material. Subsequently, Mr Wilton de Carvalho was in the region having obtained another amount of meteorites. Description obtained from the documents of M. E. Zucolotto.
