Iron Meteorite - IAB Coarse Octahedrite.
PETROGRAPHY:
It presents Neumann lines, indicative of shocks in space. These reheats may be the cause of the absence of nickel in a given phase found in the meteorite. It also features a widmanstatten pattern with coarse lamellae. Cohenite and schreibersite minerals are present. Description obtained in the documents of National Museum.
GEOCHEMISTRY:
(INAA - J. T. Wasson, UCLA) Total composition: Co = 0.46%, Ni = 6.43%, Ga = 89.6 ppm, As = 11.6 ppm, Ir = 3.36 ppm, Au = 1.46 ppm.
CLASSIFICATION:
ron Meteorite - Coarse Octahedrite IAB.
CLASSIFIERS:
M. E. Zucolotto (MNRJ) and J. Wasson (UCLA)
HISTORY:
A mass of about 30 kg was found by a cowherd in a land where gold is prospecting, near Uruaçu, in the state of Goias. A sample of the mass was sent to the University of Arizona for identification, with a negative opinion, based on the non-Widmanstatten development of the structure and the absence of Ni in a metallic meteorite. Another sample was sent by Mr. Carvalho for a new analysis at the National Museum, where his meteoritic nature was proven. Source: Scorzelli et al. (2010).
